DAY 43
05.17.07
TREE 49Again I waited till after dark to climb. I had friends over for dinner and they sounded interested in joining me. So after some good food and wine, Aaryn and I went to another close tree right in front of the Friary… one I have had my eye on. This tree was also an easy but fun climb with many branches and paths to choose. The night was quite cool. But instead of just watching, it was nice to have Aaryn climb with me. Though she didn’t climb nearly as high as I did, it felt nice, and much like climbing as a kid, to be talking about random subjects while me moved through the limbs. A nice, carefree climb.
5-18-08: AHHHH! I missed a day of blogging! I went out Friday afternoon and didn’t come back home until tonight. I did not think it worth the time or gas money to drive all the way home to post an entry. So I am doubling up tonight. I give thanks to Will for providing the fold out couch bed for two nights in a row. And to Basil for being such a good bunkmate. We’ve been hanging out quite a bit lately, supporting local arts, partying, climbing trees, biking, and other crazy hijinks.
For example, Basil and I met up to ride bikes and then climb a tree in Cherokee Park. He’s helping me turn my brother’s old ten speed into a fixed gear. He just finished putting together his nice light blue fixie.
It’s also awesome that Will and Basil have been tree climbing regularly as a part of their training. Will likes to go barefoot. Basil wants to shimmy. So when I want to go climb they are always game.
So I selected a sycamore by frisbee field. The best part of the entire climb was the entry. It took about 5 tries but I finally succeeded in running up the trunk, getting my middle and ring fingers into a knot hole, hanging momentarily, then muscling my way up to grab the first branch. From there it was easy going to the top. Basil then climbed a nearby sycamore. The one I climbed on the 9th of this month. Here is a picture of me looking at the sun from the top of my tree. I tried to get a picture of Basil in his but there were too many leaves.
