DAY 10

DAY 10

TREE 11

My friend, Will, came to MACA to check out the place. I showed him around the buildings, but more importantly, I showed him around the woods. Butthe weather was similar to typical Northwest grey, drizzly glum. But it didn’t stop us from going all over the place. The tree I climbed was a beech, all wet and leaning over the creek. The branches I used to support me were small but they held. At the top it curved to a horizontal platform and made a nice seat. All the while Will watched and took some pictures. It is a very different thing to climb a tree when you know you’re being watched. I try to look more confident.

4-14-08:  Ladies and Gentlemen, Will Michael Garner:

I believe Will took pictures of me climbing with his cell phone.  I am not sure if still has any of those.  (Will?)  He also has a livejournal blog where he often posts his drawings.  Please visit: http://considerphlebas.livejournal.com/

The picture of the tree is one of the my favorites from the year.  At least of the ones that I took from the ground.  Last year was beautiful and we had so many sunny warm days.  So when it was dark and rainy the pictures came out so different they always stuck out in the crowd.  Plus it is amazing how when I look at a picture from this project so many memories rush back.  I can picture the climb and the circumstances of the day come back to me.

Yesterday I made another tree climbing video in time lapse but tried 5 times the speed to eliminate any slow boring sections.  It still wasn’t fast enough.  I either need to start editing these things or pick a better tree or camera angle.

Thanks to everyone who has been reading my blog and making comments.  TS

  1. what an excellent picture of me.

yeah i still have those pictures of you climbing that tree on my cell phone but i don’t have a way to get them off my phone, so… your loss.

  2. chicken dance

So the sped up video reminds me of those kid shows when they showed people doing stuff in fast motion and had silly music playing along. I know the silly music was never “The Chicken Dance” but that started playing in my head while watching that. I like how you practically land on the camera at the end!

  3. description

Your description of the climbs is already getting much better. I look forward to reading the description for the summer climbs I witnessed.

  4. Re: description

Thanks man, I’d love to see how your book has evolved since I read it the first time. And since you’ll be living in Louisville soon and I will too, we can critique each other all we want. Can’t wait for you to get back.
