TREE 59I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going to climb today since I was going to my parents’ for a cookout dinner and the trees aren’t so climb-friendly there. I eyed the rest stop off I-71 on the way there and thought I could stop there on the way back if I had to. But shortly after I arrived at my parents I walked around behind the garage to look at their tomato garden, and boom, this tree perfect for climbing that I’d never noticed before was right next to the fence. The fence made a nice step to the first branch and besides the occasional dead branch, the limbs were sturdy and well spaced. I got up the top and really started to sway under my weight. So I stopped and tagged, then just looked around. All those big tall trees, just very peaceful and beautiful. I got the attention of my dad, who got my mom, who took some pictures as I climbed down. Once on the ground she said she really doesn’t want to see that too often. That it’s better she just doesn’t know about it.
5-27-08: I can’t find those pictures that my mom took. Looking through my parents’ picture files is the most confusing experience. Where’s the organization guys?
This entry makes me laugh because since I have moved home I have climbed so many trees on this property. It is a real sign of improvement when so many more trees become possibilities where before I thought they were impossible.
Yesterday I went to work for Norman again, laying hardwood flooring. And since I worked today I stayed at his place. Only I forgot to come prepared to blog so that is why I am doing two today. After We got back to his place I went for a walk in the woods. It took a while to find something climbable but eventually I spotted this little maple. It was the only thing I saw from the path I haven’t already climbed there. I wasn’t real excited about the climb but walked up to the trunk ready to go. Then when I peaked around the trunk I spotted a nice, tall beech. It was a great challenge and a fun climb. I made a video. It is long but please be patient and watch the whole thing. There is some purposeful swaying up there. Okay, maybe not purposeful but definitely controlled.
