DAY 16
04.20.07
TREE 19Today’s tree was on the IUS campus. I was there to meet Will. He is in a painting class there so I got to see his work. Plus, there was a BFA show there. Nothing spectacular. Not like the trees in this region. I love them. These huge grey beasts are all over. Well, I didn’t choose a beast. This one was smaller but leaning way over. So to get up the first part I had to run up till I could grab hold of the little hole where a branch used to be. I didn’t get too high, but it is a beautiful spring day and I’m just excited about life, art, being mostly healthy right now, friends, just everything.
4-20-08: This is another entry that makes me cringe. That may be the worst segway I have ever written. Also, Will, I hope you understand that I didn’t mean your art work. I meant the BFA show work was not spectacular. (Sorry to those folks too.) But I am sort of an art snob and if you work in 2-D, particularly painting, it takes something pretty incredible to draw my attention. The first painter that comes to mind is Jenny Saville. Her works are grotesque but also incredibly beautiful in her execution. They are really something to encounter in real life since they are massive, huge scale, paintings. This image really doesn’t convey that experience.
Then (back to my entry) I say one sentence about the climb then conclude it with a sugary-sweet exaltation of my cheery mood. Though, I do have to admit, climbing trees makes me feel this way no matter the weather or current situation in my life. Everything I see around me becomes a precious moment of beauty and I feel so lucky to have experienced this climb, this day, this life. You’ll see, it comes up a lot in my entries. As does the word beautiful, way too much really.
Yesterday I posted a picture of Michelle. Well, as she weaved that night I carved a new linoleum stamp. The next night she made her own and we made this:
Michelle’s designs are, of course, the vulvic ones and mine, the geometric ones. And finally, I did climb yesterday and made a video at the top of the tree. I have decided not to post this video because it embarrasses me. I drank a bit yesterday and climbed in a somewhat of an inebriated state. (Please kids, don’t try this at home, I am a self-trained professional and always make sure to carry my cell phone on me just in case.) As a little time passes I may post it, but I also have to consider my audience. (My parents read this.) (Hey mom and dad!) Here is a picture from the climb:
